How To Clean Gum of the Carpet

If you have ever tried to get gum off your carpet then you know how hard it can be. As you remove the gum it just stretches out and is almost impossible to fully remove.

Do you want to know a tip on how to deal with gum removal from your carpet? Well have you ever chewed gum on a cold winter’s day? It’s quite hard to start chewing straight away until it finally gets soft, right?

Well this is the exact same concept you’re going to use when cleaning gum off your carpet. Take an ice cube and leave it on top of the gum for about 5 minutes. This will harden the gum and then you’ll be able to use a spoon to leaver the gum off the carpet.

Don’t Ever Rub Stains, Blot or Dab!

Have you ever tried to remove a stain from your T-shirt. Let’s say some tomato sauce dropped on your T-shirt during a meal. That stain does not come off by rubbing does it?

The reason for this is because as you rub a stain you actually push the same stain further into the fabric. Or in the case of the carpet you’ll be pushing the stain deeper into the carpet fibers.

The most effective method to get rid of a stain in your carpet is to dab or blot at the stain over and over. This totally depends on what stain you’re dealing with and it totally depends on what cleaning solution you’re using but in general you never want to rub a stain. You never see a cleaning professional rubbing a stain on a carpet. It’s either being dabbed, blotted or a commercial machine is lifting the stain out of the carpet.

Make Sure Your Spot Test!

Every time you are using a new cleaning solution you want to do a quick spot test. For example let’s say you bought some stain removal products from the store. How do you know it’s not going to have a bad reaction with your carpet and bring out the color? Then you’ll end up with a stain removed from your carpet but you’ll have a massive patch discolored patch where you removed the stain.

So How Do You Spot Test?

Well it’s very simple. Pick a corner of the room that is preferably somewhere that you had to move some furniture from. This will cover you if your spot test does discolour your carpet. This way you can move the furniture back over the the discoloured spot test and it’s not going to be an eyesore.

Use a tiny bit of the stain removal product in the corner where you decide to do the spot test and make sure that the carpet is not discolored in any way. If there is any discoloration it’s time to go back to the store and pick a different stain removal product.
