How to Remove Oil Stains from your Carpet

Accidents can happen. And your carpet is no exception. One of the worst types of stains that you can deal with is is having to deal with cleaning an oil stain.

It does not matter how the stain happened. If something greasy fell off a plate and landed on the carpet. Or you were carrying a kitchen tray full of oil and you lost your grip so now the carpet is covered in oil. Today we are going to look at how to get rid of the dreaded cooking oil or grease that has stained your carpet.

The first thing to remember is not to stress out. Are oil stains bad for your carpet? Yes they are. But they can be cleaned quite easily if you just follow this simple guide below to learn how to deal with stain removal.

Step  #1 – Dab the Oil Stain

The very first thing you want to do is dab the oil stain on your carpet. So you don’t ruin any clean towels it’s best to use very absorbent disposable hand towels. And when we say very absorbent we do mean very absorbent. Go to the shop and buy extra absorbance hand towels.

Keep dabbing at the oil stain until you get as much oil out of the carpet as possible. This will actually remove most of the oil from the stain.

Step #2 – Coat the Oil Stain on Your Carpet with Baking Soda

The next step is very easy. Take baking soda and sprinkle it on top of the oil stain. Next you’re going to let the oil stain sit for 3 to 6 hours. Then just vacuum the powder up. The baking powder act as an absorbent and sucks the oil out of the carpet. So when you vacuum the powder you are actually vacuuming oil as well.

This step can potentially remove the oil stain entirely. If it has not remove the oil stain out of your carpet then it’s time to move on to the next step.

Step #3 – Time for the Soap!

It sounds like this stain is being a royal pain! Time to get the degreasing fight started! Cleaning is important. Don’t give up!

Take an ordinary degreaser that is store bought but make sure is the heavy duty. Create a mixture of one part hot water and one part soap.

Next you want to start to dab above the oil stain again. Make sure you dab all over the oil stain on your carpet and then let the degreaser fight the oil for about 2 minutes. Repeat this cycle until the oil stain has been removed. Then take normal water and a new cloth and dab again. This will soak up the excess soap in your carpet.

How to Prepare your Carpets for Professional Cleaning

You might be thinking that when a carpet cleaner in Newcastle comes into your property there’s nothing that you need to do to prepare beforehand. But that’s not the case and it is a very common misconception. What we are going to today is what you need to do to prepare to have your carpets professionally cleaned.

A Quick Vacuum

Although a carpet cleaning company is coming in to your home to do professional carpet cleaning. They’re not there to do vacuum. That is really your job.

When your carpet cleaning company arrives they want to get straight into dealing with deep steam cleaning or carpet shampooing.

If the cleaners arrive at your property and they have to spend 1 hour with a regular vacuum then you are going to get charged. So if you do the right thing and make sure your carpets are clean in the first place you will be happy as you will pay the price you got over the phone.

Move Furniture Around

Your carpet cleaning company might ask you to move furniture before they get there. If some furniture is to large to take off the carpet such as large couches then it’s best to push them against the wall. For all the other smaller items such as the chairs at a dining table they should be turned upside down and placed on the dining table.

Everything else that is generally lying around your home such as kids toys, shoes, clothes, any electronics and anything else at all should be packed up and put in the cupboard or somewhere that is not on the carpet.

Another thing that you can do to make sure curtains are not coming in contact with the floor. The best thing to do is to simply use a hanger and hang the curtains up on the curtain rod. This way any machines that are brought in for cleaning wont damage your curtains.

Don’t Plan on Staying at Home

When you’re getting your carpets professionally cleaned don’t plan on staying in the property. It depends on what type of carpet cleaning you’re going to get. The most common is deep steam cleaning and that type of cleaning and take a few hours to dry.

If you stay at the property you will likely get in the way of the professional there to clean your carpet so it’s best to just plan on leaving the property once you have invited the cleaning company in to start work.

How to Pick a Good Carpet Cleaning Company

Picking a good carpet cleaning company is something that most people don’t have any idea about. So in today’s article by going to talk about how you go about finding a good cleaning company that is not only highly reputable but will get the job done properly and for the right price.

As professionals within the carpet cleaning industry we’re the perfect people to talk about how to pick the right company.

Tip #1 – Don’t Pick Just Based on Equipment!

You never went to choose a company for carpet cleaning Gateshead based on their equipment alone.

Just because you need deep steam cleaning does not mean that’s the only question you should be asking them about. You want to hire a company that has been in business for quite some time dealing with the exact cleaning process that you’re looking for.

Also make sure the staff are accredited in the exact cleaning process you’re looking to hire them more. This is something that’s very important. You never want to hire a company that has literally just given stuff cleaning equipment and told them to go to customers houses to clean.

Tip #2 – What Do Others Say?

Any company can talk about the past work that they have done. The real way to judge the quality of their work in 2018 and beyond is to simply Google them and check their reviews. The company should be listed on Google with a lot of reviews.

Check out ours below or click here to see them live. Any reputable carpet cleaning company will be in Checkatrade also. The great things about Checkatrade is they have a verification process that make sure every single review left on their website is legitimate. Be if phone verified or an email verification.

Try to find a carpet cleaning company that has over 20 reviews on Checkatrade and you’re pretty much in the clear as long their reviews are pretty positive nature.

Tip #3 – Go for the Smaller Company

Don’t just choose a company based on size. There are some pretty large brands out there in the UK but the best quality you get is from the small company that has a few staff or the sole practitioner that does everything himself.

This comes down to the fact that the smaller the company is the higher risk the business takes. And every online review they get online counts. Every customer that’s not happy impacts that business more than a larger company.

In comparison to a large company that can have several slip ups and pretty much just push them under the rug. No pun intended. Clean Victoria is exactly this. A smaller company that gets the job done!

If you stick today’s 3 tips when looking to hire a carpet cleaning company you should have no problem finding someone that will come out to your property and do the job correctly for a good price.

DIY vs Professional Carpet Cleaning – Who Wins?

The answer is simple. This blog post is not going to be about comparing DIY carpet cleaning to professional carpet cleaning. It simply going to be a post about why you want to hire a professional carpet cleaning company.

Gives You More Free Time

If you live a very busy life and have a hectic schedule then you don’t want to be thinking about cleaning your own carpets. Let alone everything else that comes with keeping a home clean.

If you don’t stick to a regular cleaning schedule then grime and dust will stay inside your carpet. This does not look good when you have family or friends over. And it’s also not good to your overall health. Breathing in dust on a regular basis can cause health issues and even more so if you have asthma. If you don’t suffer from any health issues it’s still not good for your health and you’ll be sneezing a lot form all the dust.

Professionals Do It Better!

Professional carpet cleaning is much better than DIY. Let’s be realistic for a moment. your little vacuum cleaner does not have that much power in it. To get a real good deep clean on your carpet you need a professional company to come in to do cleaning with a commercial equipment. Even a wizz bang high end £600 vacuum is no match to the power a commercial machine has.

This is pretty much something that cannot be disputed once you have had your carpets cleaned by a professional for the first time.

Carpet Cleaning is Hard Work

Carpet cleaning is physically exhausting. Imagine you have a five bedroom home. That is a lot of space to clean. Not only the main areas of the carpet but getting into all the corners, moving all the furniture, and then moving all the furniture back once you’re done.

Don’t Ever Rub Stains, Blot or Dab!

Have you ever tried to remove a stain from your T-shirt. Let’s say some tomato sauce dropped on your T-shirt during a meal. That stain does not come off by rubbing does it?

The reason for this is because as you rub a stain you actually push the same stain further into the fabric. Or in the case of the carpet you’ll be pushing the stain deeper into the carpet fibers.

The most effective method to get rid of a stain in your carpet is to dab or blot at the stain over and over. This totally depends on what stain you’re dealing with and it totally depends on what cleaning solution you’re using but in general you never want to rub a stain. You never see a cleaning professional rubbing a stain on a carpet. It’s either being dabbed, blotted or a commercial machine is lifting the stain out of the carpet.

Make Sure Your Spot Test!

Every time you are using a new cleaning solution you want to do a quick spot test. For example let’s say you bought some stain removal products from the store. How do you know it’s not going to have a bad reaction with your carpet and bring out the color? Then you’ll end up with a stain removed from your carpet but you’ll have a massive patch discolored patch where you removed the stain.

So How Do You Spot Test?

Well it’s very simple. Pick a corner of the room that is preferably somewhere that you had to move some furniture from. This will cover you if your spot test does discolour your carpet. This way you can move the furniture back over the the discoloured spot test and it’s not going to be an eyesore.

Use a tiny bit of the stain removal product in the corner where you decide to do the spot test and make sure that the carpet is not discolored in any way. If there is any discoloration it’s time to go back to the store and pick a different stain removal product.
