Quayside Markets – Riverside Markets Every Sunday

A favorite way to spend a Sunday morning for a lot of folks in Newcastle is to head to the Quayside Markets. The markets are located on the Newcastle side of the River Tyne.

The markets date back 200 years and while the products on offer might not be exactly the same as when it started some things never change. From witty banter to cheerful and happy local traders even on those cold and brutal North East winter mornings.

The markets have a little bit of everything. It doesn’t matter what you’re looking for if it’s something that you will expect to find at the market you’re probably going to find it at this market. If you’re looking for clothes,  paintings painted by local artists, handmade jewelry, ceramic products, street art, local food or coffee. If it’s at the markets generally you’re going to find it. Every trader is independent and a local plus most of the goods sold are handmade giving them that extra sense of authenticity.

The great part about going to the markets is that you can really grab a bargain. A lot of things cost under £10 and with how expensive things are in general these days that is a bargain and a half!

The markets are open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Sunday and they can be found on the Newcastle side of the River Tyne pretty much between the Swing and Gateshead Millennium bridges.

Make sure you get down there this weekend grab a bargain or two and support one of the locals eating their food or buying their products instead of a national chain. Even if you only pop down once or twice a year it’s well worth the trip and it helps the local economy.
